What’s going on

News

Good evening everyone, I apologize that I have been absent from our happenings page of late.  As many of you know my wife and I welcomed our 3rd baby into the world on April 4th, 2017.  Her name is Sarah Jasmine Garrett and she is perfect, so I will use that as an excuse for why I haven’t been posting.  We have lots going on at our club so I will do a two part post, one for club happenings and another about the golf season that is off to an up and down start weather wise.

Thanks to everyone who attended Easter Brunch we served 300 of you and your guests, food was very good and it was nice to see so many in attendance.  We will having our Mother’s Day Brunch on Sunday May 14th, we should have a complete menu sometime this week. Please RSVP with Laura.

We are getting started on a Gourmet Wine Dinner for the early Summer, similar to the one we did in November.   We will get a date and details out very soon.

Our feature menus our really a hit, please provide feedback as to what you like.  The idea with the Feature Menu is to simply allow our chefs to be creative and mix up different dishes.  We will tweak our main menu as the season is changing.  The feature menu this time includes: 2 lobster dishes, Lobster Stir Fry, and Sweet Maine Lobster Tail.  Also after a bit of begging on my part a Cuban Sandwich.

Our next Wine Tasting for Wine Club members is Friday May 19th, we will have a new presenter from Shepherd Distributing with us, he is very interesting and has some nice quality wines for you to try.

Pool season is getting closer, we have the pool cleaned and painted. We should start filling here in the next week or so depending on the weather.  The pool will about

We will start serving dinner on Saturday’s starting May 27th.  Dinner hours on Saturdays will be 5:30-9:00 PM.  There will be Saturdays where the club will be closed for Private events we will email those out in advance.

Lastly,  we have a bunch of new faces around the club, if you see someone you don’t know, welcome them to our club, invite them for a drink, or a round of golf.  After a year here I found that this club is very welcoming and its easy to make friends.  This place is pretty awesome welcome our new members and show them how great it is.  See you all soon!

Good afternoon everyone,  it’s Master’s Week.  Probably my favorite week of the year for golf.  It is a celebration of the game, and the beauty, history and serenity when you see the images of Augusta National on TV.  I would ultimately tell you if you haven’t been, you need to make it a goal to go and at least see the beauty of the golf course.  This week we will of course be having 1/2 price appetizers during coverage of the Masters.  We will also attempt that is a BIG IF depending on the weather for Friday night, to have a 9 hole Par 3 tournament.   Brendan will be putting this together here this week and hopefully the weather forecast improves.

We have a fun event planned for next Wednesday April 12th, representatives from Titleist and Foot Joy will be here to do a short game and ball presentation and Foot  Joy will have its new product for display.  Members and their guests are invited to come and join we will have complimentary appetizers, and a cash bar.  We have a Titleist fitting day scheduled for April 25th here at the club we will sign those of you up you are interested.  Also for those who haven’t taken advantage of the Loyalty Rewarded program (Buy 3 Get 1 Free) we can get that set up as well.  This is a free event to come to.  I encourage everyone that can be here to please be here, especially new members as this will give them an opportunity to meet new people and get our golf season off to a great start.

All the golf schedules are on the website and printed in the pro shop if you are wanting to look at them.  We have a fantastic year planned and hope that all of you play more golf this season.  Our new tee boxes will be getting sodded in the next few weeks, depending on rain, should be ready for the first of May.

Let’s all say a little prayer that the weather improves!!

Good afternoon everyone we are being punished, as I thought we would, for this mild winter by snow and cold temps in the middle of March when we should be playing golf.  Looks like this week is a scratch so we will work on some tree trimming and removal.

We are excited about ACC’s first attempt at PGA Junior League Golf, it is a fun way to compete and play team golf against other clubs.  So far we have about 14 kids signed up for the ACC PGA Junior League we will be putting a schedule together with other clubs very shortly.

Make sure you come out and enjoy all the NCAA hoops this week at the club we will have 1/2 price appetizers on tap Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  St. Patrick’s Day is also Friday night, we will have child care so please make your reservations.  Irish fare, green beer, and fun cocktail options will all be available.

Thursday night we are going to be meeting in the bar to discuss the 2017 Men’s Schedule we have a great schedule put together with new events, tweaks to existing events and we will be forming a Hole in One Pot.  1/2 price apps and hoops on Thursday night as well.

If you are interested in poker we have started a normal game 1 Thursday each month, please email brian@andersoncountryclub.net if you would like more information.

Twilight league is coming soon please sign up in the Pro shop or email brendan@andersoncountryclub.net to do so.

Looking forward to warmer temps next week.

Brendan and I have been working on both Men’s and Women’s Schedules for 2017.  We are happy to reveal the schedule for 2017 for the Men.  We are excited about our offering this season.  We used the feedback from our members, participation, and member involvement to put this together.  A couple of major changes to the schedule that we want to note.

Our 50th Annual ACC Men’s Invitational moves back to our normal time slot as the 3rd weekend in June.  Practice Rounds will be played on Thursday June 22nd, Invitational Rounds will be played on June 23rd-June 24th.  We will be putting a committee together soon to prepare the plans for this 50th annual tournament.

We moved the Stroke Play Championship back later in the year and it will be contested over 2 rounds on separate weekends.  The Stroke Play was originally scheduled for the weekend after Memorial Day, this hurt participation as it ties up essentially 2 weekends in a row with the holiday, and it seemed to be to early in the season.  The Stroke Play Championship will be played in August 19th and August 26th.

We will introduce 2 new events into the schedule:  1st: 2 Man Ole’ Buddy Tournament which will be a Pick your own partner full handicap 1BB match play tournament.  It will be season long.

We also will do a two team format tournament called the Indian Cup which will be the same format as the Paugh-Stoops Cup except  the Golf Professionals will be team captains.  This will be played on July 8th and 9th.

You can view the full schedule at http://andersoncountryclub.net/golf/  scroll down to the Men’s Schedule Button. It is also on our calendar on our events page.  If you have any questions feel free to email or call.

Thanks,

Good afternoon all, I am spreading the word about this year’s twilight league.  On January 31st we had a open forum in the bar to share ideas and feedback for the Twilight League this season.  With the feedback and input I have received and a few tweaks I think this year’s league can be more fair, more fun, and better for everyone who wishes to play.

Twilight League will start on April 18th,  Team night with dinner in the Stilwell room: no golf.  Will pick teams based on the number of registrants.  6:00 PM.  We will select the lowest handicaps and they will be the “A” players.  We will snake draft just like last year.

Individual Competition will be two separate divisions:  Everyone will be eligible for both divisions.  The first division is the total number of points scored throughout all of the individual nights, (traditional- McNabney Division).   The other division will be the 7 best scores of those posted, this is new to accommodate those players who can’t simply make it every week and are at a disadvantage- (DeHaven Division) .  The Champion Golfer of the year will still come from the traditional division.  The prize pool will be split evenly between the divisions.

More team nights, we will add 3 additional “team” nights where we will play scramble format.  In order to keep the cost the same we will not serve dinner on those nights.  We will run food specials and beer specials in the bar on those nights for those who want to stick around for skins and CTP results.

Handicaps:

We will start with the traditional handicapping system until the May 15th revision.  Starting May 16th we will use the Indiana Blue Golf Handicap System for 9 hole handicaps.  This will allow the handicap system that is in place to do what it is supposed to do which is keep accurate record of ability subject to peer review, and keep record of other rounds played at ACC or other clubs.

We will start registration on March 1st, and it will conclude April 18th with the drawing of teams.  We will have a schedule of events for Twilight that will be published on the website and posted in locker rooms starting March 1st.

If you have any questions feel free to email me or call.

Thanks,

Brian Garrett, PGA

Good morning everyone I hope you are preparing for the big game this weekend, and if you are like me I am counting down the days to warm weather and spring time.  I got back from the PGA Merchandise Show and I thought I would share a little about what I thought was interesting for the club and the pro shop, and also the golf industry as a whole.

I felt excitement this year as I was walking the show floor, lots of vendors with unique setups.  As far as hard goods go it really comes down to two Vendors in my opinion Callaway who had an unbelievable setup you really couldn’t go anywhere on the floor without feeling their presence nearby, to walk from one end to the other you had to basically walk through their setup.  They have two giant things going for them right now.  Firstly,  the Epic and Epic SubZero driver is doing well on tour and by all measurably will do well with consumers. They have also bit into the premium golf ball market with Chrome Soft, and the newly launched Chrome Soft-x for players that prefer a firmer feeling golf ball.  We will carry both products and will be able to offer the Tru-vis again this year which is a popular golf ball.

Taylor-Made had the biggest news the week of the show with the signing of Tiger Woods on Day 1 of the show.  He is committed to playing metal woods, irons and wedges.  Although he hasn’t played well to get started he will no doubt move the meter for TM this year.  The biggest game changing product will likely be the Taylor Made TP5 and TP5x golf balls, and you will have the opportunity to get these golf balls in your hands for free soon.  I will be hosting a Member Day on Saturday March 4th.  I will send out more info as we get closer.  If you sign up and come you will receive 5 free golf balls to test.  Also during our fitting days at ACC this season you will also receive a 5-pack of TP5 or TP5x golf balls for being fit.  You will have the opportunity to try this golf ball essentially for free to see if you like it.  I played 3 rounds with the TP5 ball and there is no doubt is performs better than any ball I have played, longer, soft enough and spins well.

I also visited AM&E a putter and headcover manufacturing company.  I am looking for some neat tee gifts for our 50th Annual Invitational this season.  Seamus Golf, and Club Glove were some other vendors I met with.  From an apparel standpoint I met with Linksoul, we carried this last season in the Pro Shop and it went very well, great shorts, and cotton type of clothing.  I met with representatives from Travis Matthew and will be deciding shortly if this brand is something that would go in our shop.  So far I have booked Under Armour, Adidas,  Columbia Golf, Puma, Donald Ross, and Foot Joy Apparel for 2017.  Footwear, Adidas, Puma, and FootJoy.

I am looking forward to 2017 in our Pro Shop, please remember we have the shop open Friday 2/3 and next Tuesday and Friday from 11:00 AM-4:00 PM.  We have golf shirts at $25.00-$30.00, trying to clear out for new fun things.  I look forward to seeing you all soon.

Good afternoon everyone!! I hope you have gotten to come out and try some of our new stuff on the feature and dinner menu.  So far the Stir Fry is an absolute hit, delicious.   Some of the other items that are spot on are Black and Bleu Salad, Jamaican Wings, and the Spaghetti and Meatballs.   Come check the new items out we think you will like them.

We are glad to host a Super Bowl Sunday Brunch so you can get a good solid meal in before the drinking and snacking begins in celebration of the big game.   We are doing sliced NY Strip, Herb Crusted Pork and Fried Chicken as the main entrees, and of course Waffle and Omelet bar.  Please RSVP with Laura at laura@andersoncountryclub.net or give us a call.

Brendan and myself should have the schedule of events out by the first part of February we are adding a few events to the Men’s and Ladies schedules that I think will be great additions to the club.  Some of those events are a Ladies Choice tournament,  Indian Cup which is a Ryder Cup Style event, and a couple of other TBA’s   We will do a schedule reveal party sometime in February..stay tuned.

PGA Show next week for me I will report on some new and exciting things from the golf world!!

Thanks all!

Good afternoon everyone,  I am looking forward to opening back up tomorrow.  During our shutdown we have gotten quite a lot of things accomplished.  I will go over those and we also have new menus that we are rolling out tomorrow.  We have a lot to look forward to this year and I am looking forward to it.

First,  I want to say a big thanks to Element 212, Tammy and Todd Rimer, for the amazing work they have done on our new website.  I am wanting to launch this new website very soon (this week or next) so you all can take a look around.  It will be evolving like any project, but I think it will be a great representation of our club for the internet world.

We have a new structure to our dining menus starting on Tuesday January 17th.  We will still have a lunch and dinner menu like normal and we are still committed to changing those on a quarterly basis; however we are introducing a feature menu.  It will be a one-page feature menu that will change out every 2-3 weeks and will allow our chefs to be creative to provide alternative eating options.  The feature menu will have apps, salad, sandwiches and entree’s.  For example one of the entree’s on the new feature menu will be  Whiskey Chicken: pan seared chicken with sautéed mushrooms & a whiskey cream sauce.

I am going to be visiting the PGA Merchandise Show on January 25th.  I will take some pictures and share them on our Facebook  page.  I also will have an article about my experience there and what new fun stuff is coming to the world of golf.  Tune in to live coverage from the PGA Merchandise Show on the Golf Channel all week for more information on the show.

We have successfully moved the Wine Room across the hall during shutdown;  no wine bottles were harmed during the move.  This will allow us more space for lockers Wine Club is a popular activity at Anderson Country Club.  If you are interested in joining please email us.

That is all for now I look forward to 2017 and seeing you all in the next few weeks.

Brian Garrett, PGA

I hope that everyone had a wonderful time with their families over the past couple of weeks.  We are at the start of our shutdown period here at the club.  We are doing some annual maintenance that needs to be taken care of.  We are working on taking out some dead trees on the golf course, most notably the tree left of #4 fairway and behind # 8 green.  It is dead and will be coming down soon.  We also will be doing some tree trimming on holes #7 and #2.  For those of you who I have spoken with about these holes know how I feel about trees in the way of your line of play.  Hopefully we will be able to play #7 from the back tee more often in 2017.

We are adding some events to the calendar for the 1st quarter.  Most notably we will have a Super Bowl Sunday Brunch on February 5th from 11 to 2 PM.  Get your Super Bowl Sunday started off on the right foot with a good meal, menu will be announced.  We are also having our first Wine Tasting on Friday February 3rd details will come shortly on that event as well.

On Tuesday January 31st we will have a Men’s Twilight Open Forum held in the bar area, we will have 1/2 price appetizers.  The agenda for this event is simple we want to hear feedback on Twilight League and some of our plans for 2017.  This is your opportunity to share your feedback, have fellowship with other members.

I will be headed to the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando on January 24th-25th.  I will be checking out new product and sharing that on social media you may follow Anderson Country Club on Instagram at @andersoncountryclub or simply like our facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/andersoncountryclub/

We are working towards a couple of technology upgrades with our billing, and a brand new website.  I will write about those later in the week.  Happy New Year Everyone!!!

Good afternoon all, I don’t know about you but it has been a couple of weeks since I have played and I am ready to go again.  I can deal with about a month’s worth of winter weather before I start to get cranky about not playing golf and being outside.  So since I have no other choice but to sit here and deal with the weather I satisfy my golf cravings by learning about new golf equipment.   This week Brendan and I met with Callaway Golf and learned about some of their new products that are coming onto the market.  This coming year you will see more of a Callaway presence in our shop.  Brendan will be on staff with Callaway, we will also have a couple of demo days to support with fitting.  They have a couple of products coming onto the market that could be real movers.  Firstly, the Callaway Chrome Soft franchise adds to its line up with the Callaway Chrome Soft X, this ball will play a bit firmer than the current Chrome Soft with a bit less spin.  Most tour players are playing this ball and now it will be available to the masses.  This is a great alternative option to other higher priced Tour balls at $39.99 per dozen.   Secondly, the Callaway Epic and Epic Subzero is what Callaway is touting as “gamechanging technology”  specifically in the driver the Epic and Epic Subzero are built around “jailbreak” technology that help keep the crown and the sole of the club connected during impact, this will lead to more ball speed.  SubZero is the low spin, pear profile version, and the Epic has the adjustability in the sole with weights to help with ball flight.   the Epic and Epic SZ will retail at $499.99.  If you would like to learn more about these products please give me a call or stop by.  Next week I will cover TaylorMade’s 2017 product line.
